AN MP has signed a youth employment charter.
Clwyd South MP Susan Elan Jones has put her signature to a charter to demonstrate her commitment to supporting local youth employment.
According to a leading organisation, Youth Employment UK, the cost of youth unemployment over the next decade has been estimated at £28 billion. The UN’s International Labour Office claim that young people are three times more likely to be unemployed than any other age group.
Susan Elan Jones MP said: “I am very pleased to sign this charter. In these uncertain times, I believe that it is especially important to listen to our young people to understand the obstacles and challenges that they perceive to be ahead. It is of vital importance that we provide quality learning and develop opportunities for employment locally.
"We should also celebrate the fantastic contribution that young people make to our area as employees, apprentices, and students. This is in addition to their role in our community through social action and volunteering.”
