TWO members of a Mold club were recognised for their outstanding contribution to their movement.

Mold's Rotary Club welcomed two guest speakers at its June meeting.

Jane Woodward of Ground Work North Wales spoke of the work undertaken by the organisation, which is a member of the National Federation of Ground Work Trusts and operates in north Wales, north Powys and north Ceredigion, from its offices based in Bangor and Wrexham.

The remit of the organisation is wide - helping excluded teenagers and people not in regular education and adults into employment.

Andrew Farrow, chief officer for environment and economy at Flintshire Council, was the club's second guest speaker.

His remit also includes trading standards, environmental health, pest control, pollution, and many other responsibilities.

Based at Ewloe, his office oversees planning in all its stages and deals with 1,300 planning application each year.

The talk was well received and elicited many questions from members brought about many questions from members.

At the final meeting of the Rotary year, the club was joined by District Governor Rotarian Steve Martin.

He commenced his address by playing a recording of a speech given by the founder of Rotary International in 1905 by American attorney Paul Harris. Members of Rotary who make outstanding contributions to the Rotary movement are eligible for the award of a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Mr Martin was pleased to present the award to Mold Rotarian Pedr Roberts, who has led and served the club and Rotary district with distinction, as well as Rotarian Mark Philpot.

Mr Philpot has also served and led the club and district with distinction - notably with the public speaking competition known as “Youth Speaks”.

On the social side, the club recently hosted a coffee morning at the Daniel Owen Centre in aid of water survival boxes.

A spokesman said: "We wish to thank all who supported the event and helped us raise over £200 for the scheme."

A further coffee morning will be held on Saturday, July 6 jointly with Mold Inner Wheel Club at Bryn Ffynnon, Bryn y Bâl, in aid of good causes and charities.
