THE makers of hand crafted flower boxes for a village competition have expressed disappointment after they were removed.

Pet Funeral Services, at the Pet Cemetery in Holywell, had provided the boxes for Brynford village green.

Installed at the beginning of June, they had been part of the village's entry in Wales in Bloom - organised in partnership with Brynford Community Council.

But Emma Ward, marketing director at Pet Funeral Services, said she and her family were disappointed after it was noticed last week that some boxes had been removed.

She said: "The Pet Cemetery put them there because we have been doing some village improvements as part of Wales in Bloom.

The Leader:

"Our staff have been cutting grass, doing litter picks and these boxes were made specifically for the village green.

"We had them there last year but my mum Terri Ward and sister-in-law Sue Ward hand made them and re-seeded them.

"The community have been watering them and working together to look after them.

"But now we have about four missing - someone has come along and taken them.

"My mum is really angry, but it is just disappointing. I am hoping they are returned because this is about the community pulling together."

Miss Ward said the matter had not been reported to North Wales Police, but she called on whoever took the boxes to return them.
