AN Ellesmere Port fundraiser is looking to take on a Backford hospice-backed Chester event in memory of someone who brought colour into her life.

Erin McFadden has entered this year's Foamtastic Colour Blast, organised by the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and sponsored by Oliver & Co, at Chester Racecourse on Sunday, August 11.

Last year the event was sold out, with 1,300 people taking part who raised over £30,000 for the hospice, and the deadline for early bird tickets is fast approaching.

Erin is taking part in he event memory of her nan, Irene Plunkett. Irene was a volunteer at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd for 11 years and sadly died earlier this year.

To honour Irene’s hard work at the hospice, she has chosen to fundraise in Irene’s memory.

This year Erin has already taken part in the London Marathon in memory of her nan and also her grandad Stan, who died at the Hospice, and is really excited about taking part in the Foamtastic Colour Blast.

She said: "Before my grandad Stan passed away at the hospice, he made my nan promise that she would keep living her life, and she did! Nan became a volunteer at the hospice and went every Thursday for 11 years, as this was her way of thanking the staff for their amazing care.

"I hope that one day I will be just like her."

Community fundraiser Phil Crawford said: “We are delighted that Erin is supporting this event in memory of both her grandparents.

"Irene was a 'larger than life' character and known to all staff and volunteers at the hospice. She volunteered at many of our events because she knew first-hand how important the care we give is patients and their families.

"She was bursting with pride when she knew Erin was running the marathon in support of the hospice.”

Early bird ticket prices before July 2 for the Foamtastic Colour Blast are £14 per adult and £7.50 per child. Register by calling 01244 851811 or visit www.hospicegs.com.
