A NEW food court trader in Ty Pawb is raising awareness of its coffee scheme due to a lack of people taking advantage of it.

No. 22 opened in Wrexham’s Arts Centre only a few days ago and is running a ‘Suspended Coffee Initiative’ in which customers have the option to purchase extra cups of coffee which are added to a ‘suspended’ menu and can be given out to anyone who needs it.

However, despite many people opting to purchase these extra coffees, only a handful of those on the suspended menu have been claimed.

A spokesman for No.22 said: “We currently have 46 coffees that have been paid for and are ready for people to collect whenever they want, we just need more people to come and enjoy them.

“People don’t need to feel bad for coming and claiming a coffee from the suspended menu, the aim of this whole initiative is to create a trust and togetherness in this community, so that people of all different backgrounds and status’ can come and enjoy a coffee in Ty Pawb.

"It doesn’t matter if you’re someone who’s in financial difficulties, someone who’s lost a wallet or an elderly person who just wants to get out of the house.

“There’s no judgement of character here, you will not be judged for asking for a coffee from the suspended menu. If you ask for one then you will receive one, no questions asked.”

The community focused café is running a number of schemes to help give some support to those who need it, including a pay it forward scheme, which means that for every 10 drinks and every 10 meals sold, one is donated to a local organisation.

The spokesman added: “This isn’t an initiative that is exclusive to us, it’s a worldwide thing.

“It’s all about creating a feel good factor in the town, we want it to feel as inclusive as possible, a place where people can buy coffees for each other and if you claim one then maybe you might put one back in for someone else a couple weeks later.

“Some people can afford to buy a coffee every single day, some might find the expense of one everyday is a bit much, this initiative should make it so that anyone at any time can enjoy a cup of coffee if they want one.

"Ty Pawb means ‘Everyone’s House’ in Welsh, and that’s what we want to help it be.”
