TEMPORARY speed limits on two busy North Wales roads are to become permanent, Welsh Government chiefs have confirmed.

The Leader previously reported that a temporary 50mph limit was placed along A494 in Flintshire as part of Welsh Government’s pledge to reduce nitrogen dioxide.

Readers were divided earlier this month as to whether the limit should remain in place.

But a spokesman the Welsh Government has now announced its plans regarding the road, as well as the A483 in Wrexham where another temporary limit had been imposed.

A spokesman said: "The 50mph speed limit was introduced through a temporary traffic regulation order in June 2018 to reduce nitrogen dioxide levels, which are currently above legal limits and must be reduced.

"It was established that for the A494 in Deeside and A483 in Wrexham, a 50mph speed threshold alone was the measure that would achieve compliance in the shortest time possible.

"The current speed limit in place will be retained via a permanent traffic regulation order and remain in force to maintain air quality standards.

"We will continue to review the effectiveness of this measure to determine its impact and whether any future action is required.”
