HANNAH Blythyn AM has called on BBC Wales to ensure its news output does more to represent all communities across Wales.

The Assembly Member for Delyn spoke with representatives of BBC Wales during a session at the Senedd to raise matters regarding how the broadcaster’s coverage can be inclusive to the whole country.

Constituents in Delyn have contacted Hannah Blythyn AM to raise their concerns that BBC Wales’ news content focused too heavily on Cardiff and the surrounding areas in South Wales.

Ms. Blythyn said: “I took the opportunity to speak with representatives from BBC Wales during an event at the National Assembly for Wales regarding the need for news coverage to reflect all corners of Wales.

“This is an issue that has been raised with me by constituents in Delyn time and again and I stressed the importance of ensuring BBC Wales’ news output represents everywhere in Wales, not just Cardiff and the surrounding areas.

During the discussion, the Delyn AM raised the possibility of ensuring radio coverage to receive BBC Radio Wales was improved to guarantee an FM signal and the impact of the UK Government’s decision to scrap TV licences for over 75s – a move that could affect almost 4,000 households in the constituency.

She added: “It was promising to hear that BBC Wales is acknowledging concerns regarding news coverage in North Wales and will look seriously at ensuring every region in Wales is recognised appropriately.”
