A PROJECT aiming to bring together local heroes will display its work this weekend.

Art and Soul Tribe CIC has been working with local veterans for the past 12 weeks on a creative arts project called 'Our Stories'.

The aim was to bring together our local heroes to share their experiences and stories, form new friendships, learn new skills, tackle loneliness and isolation and create pieces of art to share with the community as an exhibition during a free family focused community event.

The project, funded and hosted by Care and Repair, Rowleys Drive, Shotton at the old Corus Club, (now relaunched as the VC Hub via Veterans Force for Good), has been delivered by Art and Soul Tribe founder Jane Bellis and members of the Tribe.

A spokesman for the group said: "Throughout the 12 weeks, the group has worked on photography with Ian Williams, various art mediums with Joanne Tremarco and creative writing with Lyndsay Price. They have also been supported by volunteers Bev Rodgers (Deeside's very own Mary Berry), resident musician Edd Case, and Megan Simpson.

"It has been fantastic to see the family atmosphere develop."

The event on Sunday from 1pm until 5pm will see a chill out zone, with relaxing therapies, an information zone with local organisations offering help, advice and signposting.

Live performances will be at the event including circus performers, a local morris dancing group and local musicians including military veterans.

Jane added: "It really is a date not to be missed.

"The plan in the longer term is to keep the sessions going and develop and grow with the original group becoming peer mentors, which has been supported by a local MIND branch."
