A QUIRKY scheme to save high street shops in Flintshire is up and running.

Flintshire Small Business Network's (FSBN) 'pop-up' shop in Buckley has been running for a week, and has already been a resounding success.

The shop, situated in Buckley shopping centre, has seen it take over an empty shop premises, of which it is renting out to up to ten shops at any one time.

The shops each have a two by two meter stall, akin to a craft fair, to sell their products.

The move is to help save small high street businesses, with high street shops disappearing all over the country.

And businesses such as Trasmundi Glass, Vivaldi Flowers, Cake, Battle and Roll Boardgame Events, Scrap Wood Junkie, JP Wellness and And Made by Trevor Blackburn have all already had stalls in the shop.

Martin Evans, managing director of FSBN, said: "The Buckley community have been so supportive and receptive to it, as the local businesses.

"We're getting more bookings daily, it's been a revelation.

"Flintshire Council is showing its support, and I'm being contacted by other town councils in Flintshire who want me to do the same in their town.

"I tried the same initiative four years ago, but back then there were less empty high street shops."

And Martin says the shop has been brilliant for small online businesses to market their brands.

He added: "Vivaldi Flowers has been trading for 30 years, but went solely online a decade ago due to rising rent charges and the like.

"In the days she's been in the shop, she's been greeted by loads of people who didn't know she's still trading.

"She made the money she paid for her pop up shop back in the first hour of trading."

To book a stall, it’s £15 for a 2 x 2 meter space for a day, but £10 per day if you book the same space for a week.

And as well as that, FSBN will deliver goods purchased online free of charge to customers.

FSBN is part of a wide UK Business Network which is supporting and promoting small businesses, by helping them to grow and expand their reach locally and nationally, through digital networking and social, local and mobile marketing strategies.
