THE legacy of a young mum who lost her battle with cancer lives on as her Secret Weapon beauty serum continues to help other women fighting the disease.

Kate McIver, from Aldford near Chester, developed the formula to make her skin look and feel better while she underwent gruelling treatment for breast cancer.

She died in March this year aged 30, leaving behind her loving husband Chris, four-year-old daughter Lucia and beauty business based in the village.

Determined to keep Kate’s spirit alive and continue her work, colleagues are now offering people battling cancer the chance to have a free pampering session.

Kathryn Orr, of Kate McIver Skin, said: “We are offering cancer warriors a treatment to make them feel a tiny bit more like themselves. This is in the spirit of Kate’s legacy as she used to give her time to many people suffering from cancer.

“Our lovely facialist Hannah will spend an hour pampering and rejuvenating the client with Kate’s Magic! We have one allocated appointment per week if you should wish to nominate a loved one please contact customercare@katemciverskin.co.uk.”

Kate was originally diagnosed in 2016, just months after she got married. She was later given the all clear for 12 months but the disease sadly returned.

Before she died, Kate, who was originally from Hawarden in Flintshire, wrote a blog about her experiences, explaining why she had developed her special serum.

She said: “I wasn’t going to let this traumatic experience break me or impact my physical appearance more than it already had and from here the Secret Weapon was born.

“The results have been life-changing for me and many others who have gone through chemotherapy or have general skin problems.”

She added: “Knowing first-hand how cancer not only physically but emotionally affects a person I believed the Secret Weapon would give people their confidence back.

“Life is too short and no matter what you are going through mentally or physically, you have the right to look and feel the best you possibly can.

“I want to help as many people as possible feel truly happy in their own skin.”

Paying tribute to his wife in March, Chris said she had shown bravery he never thought was possible.

He added: “Please remember Kate for the truly amazing person she was and will always be.”
