A FLINT choir has welcomed a new conductor to their team.

Gareth Furnival Hughes MBA, GRSM, PGCE is from Mostyn and will take over the leading role at Flint Male Voice Choir.

He studied piano and choral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London in the 1980s and since then has enjoyed a rewarding career as an accompanist and conductor, performing throughout Europe and Africa.

He was recently appointed Head of the Music Department at Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle, near Caernarfon where he is setting about revitalising the music department there.

Gareth said he intends to introduce a mixture of traditional male voice and modern day music to provide an exciting repertoire and has already shown his commitment and interest in the choir at the twice weekly rehearsals.

Gareth, who has proven to be popular with the choir, hopes to showpiece some of the latest repertoire at the forthcoming venues in and around the locality.

A spokesman for the choir said: "Now would be also a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in joining the choir to come along and listen with a view to starting a new hobby.

"New starters will be fully supported in all aspects of the choir from singing to Welsh pronunciation. We rehearse twice a week on a Sunday and Wednesday evening from 7:15pm to 9:15pm at the Emmaus Church. Choir members pay an annual subscription £60."
