A COMMUNITY choir will be holding workshops in Flintshire this week before performing at events in the county.

The North Wales Regional Equality Network (NWREN) Happy Choir will be closing the Flintshire Pride festival on Saturday before appearing again at the Synergy Refugee Week event on Tuesday, June 18.

Prior to their official performances the choir will be carrying out interactive workshops, led by Belinda Gammon, the group’s musical director.

About the upcoming workshops and performances Ms Gammon said: “We are working to challenge discrimination, promote equality, and uphold human rights through our music.

“We’ve performed in the past in Cardiff, as well as at hate crime week, and the recent holocaust Memorial Day.

“Now we’re looking forward to performing at Flintshire Pride and at the Synergy Refugee Week event and hoping to get as many people involved as we can.”

The workshops will consist of tai chi and practice in singing techniques and English styles, with participants also being invited to join in with the choir for a song afterwards.

To be a part of the upcoming workshops, or to see the NWREN Happy Choir perform this week, you can see them at Flintshire Pride which will be held at Mold Rugby Club on Saturday from 10.15am to 3.30pm.

The group will then make another appearance on Tuesday when members hold a similar workshop at the King's Christian Centre, also in Mold, as part of the Synergy Refugee Week.

That event is due to take place between 4pm and 6pm.

Much of the current choir were a part of the group which made a music video cover to Pharrell Williams' hit song Happy as part of the Minority Ethnic Elders Advocacy Project in 2016.

If you want to join in with similar projects the group might plan to carry out, anyone is welcome to attend regular ‘Move and Sing’ sessions.

The Flintshire group meets from 2pm to 4.30pm on the first and third Fridays of each month at Libby’s Community Café in Connah’s Quay.

The Wrexham group, meanwhile, practises at Wrexham Methodist Centre every Thursday from 1pm to 3.30pm.
