A BUSINESS in Ellesmere Port took part in a 10-mile charity walk to raise money for the Cheshire Young Carers charity.
A team from Barbour ABI, which employs around 120 people at its Cheshire Oaks base, raised more than £10,000 for the group by walking the Wirral Way from Thurstaston to Hooton.
It was part of a global ‘Walk the World’ event organised by parent company Informa which sees all offices step out to support their chosen charities.
Alan Jones, from Cheshire Young Carers, said: “Barbour ABI’s support will directly fund activities for young carers in the local area, helping to provide a break to some of the thousands of children across Cheshire who look after a loved one.
“It will also help raise awareness of the ‘hidden army’ of this special group of young people and get them support in the future.
“Just £56 means a child can attend activities in the summer holiday which is a hugely isolating time for children who look after someone.
“Cheshire Young Carers will really benefit from this support and we are grateful for everyone who has played their part in helping these children get the break and childhood that they deserve.”
Simon Mahoney, Group Director of Barbour ABI, added: “We are proud to be supporting Cheshire Young Carers with our fundraising efforts this year. The support they provide to young carers within our local area is invaluable and the charity relies heavily on donations made by companies and private donors.
“The team at Barbour ABI have put in a great effort to raise as much money as possible – and the total currently stands at £10,500. We hope this will make a real difference to the lives of young carers in our local area.”
