A FAMILY is urging people not to give up on Penyffordd pensioner, a week after he was reported missing.

Thursday, May 30 marked one week since Colin Purton, 78, was last seen and his family members are urging people to continue looking for their loved one.

Terry Purton, cousin, told the Leader: "It all seems a bit of a mystery

"It's been quite a worry really, we are all wondering where he is and what's happening. It's a dreadful thing to have happened.

"The police are doing all they can to help, I can't praise them enough."

Colin Purton has been missing from his home in Penyffordd since Wednesday, May 22.

The 78-year-old was last seen travelling by bus from Mold on the morning of May 23.

CCTV footage shows him getting off the Number 4 bus on Saltney High Street, outside the Lucky Chinese Takeaway, just before 8am.

Mr Purton's whereabouts from the point of stepping off the bus is still unknown and North Wales Police previously said they are continuing the search.

The search has so far included the use of drones, assistance from the National Police Air Service, North East Wales Search and Rescue, the Rescue Dogs Association and Flint Coastguard Rescue Team.

Terry added: "If anyone knows anything please get in touch with the police. We are hoping he is found safe and well soon. The longer it goes on, the more fearful I am of not having good news.

"He's been in and out of hospital and the last time I spoke to him was three weeks ago. He said he was home and not feeling well. I asked if the hospital knew what was wrong with him and he said no and he was going to be cooking his tea.

"Over the years we all sort of split apart, especially after my grandmother died years ago, families aren't like they are anymore but we are all hoping he is found soon. If anyone can help in anyway then please do.

"I've been down to Saltney to take part in the search with residents and the police and shared what information I could with them.

"It's a good thing, a nice thing to do. Not many people would do this sort of thing for someone they didn't know. In this day and age, people don't seem to help people, not like the old days and knowing all your neighbours.

"That's why it was nice to see so many people helping where they can. I hope we find him soon."

The Leader has previously reported that Saltney residents have been taking part in their own community searches, organised by Donna Sue.

Donna has organised three searches so far and says if it was her resident, she would not stop until they were found.

She said: "We've searched different areas multiple times this week and the one we done on Wednesday, I met Colin’s cousin but unfortunately nothing came of it.

"I’m thinking of organising one for Friday/Saturday if he’s still not found. Saturday may be better as more people may be able to attend.

"If anyone wants to join in, they can contact me via Facebook or keep an eye on the Saltney Flintshire community group or Chester’s Biggest Community Noticeboard Group.

"Any of our search information will be posted in both groups or they can contact me via private message."

Colin is described as being 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build with short white hair and who usually wears a flat cap and has a walking stick. He was last seen wearing a distinctive red coat.

Inspector Steve Owens, of the South Flintshire policing team, confirmed the search remains of 'significant concern' and officers will continue to dedicate themselves to finding him.

Helen Samuels, Terry's daughter, added: "His family and friends are worried and hope Colin is found safe and well soon. If anybody has seen him or knows where he is, please get in touch with the police."
