A SCHOOL is set to welcome a brand new addition to its facilities with sixth form students eager to step through the doors.

New £1.7million facilities at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd are just being completed with work having begun last summer.

The new sixth form block features modular classrooms which can be split into individual rooms and break rooms for study – with more than £20,000 of new furniture throughout.

This new extension to the school site also makes use of wireless presentation and collaboration technology, which allows students and teachers to link their devices – such as phone, tablets or laptops – to internal displays and monitors throughout the building.

The system will be the first of its kind in a Wrexham school.

Pupils will be able to use the system to work collaboratively or individually, and the new layout is designed according to what pupils requested.

The work is funded from the Welsh Government’s Band A 21st Century Schools Programme, and Wrexham Council.

Trefor Jones-Morris, Chair of the Governors at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, said: “I’m very pleased to see that the work on the new sixth form block is now complete. The school’s leadership team has wanted to improve facilities for sixth form students for some time, and we hope that students will make good use of the new block.

“We’ve already had visits to the site by sixth form students, and they’ve been very impressed with the new amenities.”

Cllr Phil Wynn, lead member for education at Wrexham Council, said: “The work at Morgan Llwyd is part of our capital school improvement programme, and I’m pleased to note that this project was delivered on time.

“I’d like to thank officers at Wrexham Council for their role in co-ordinating the work, along with staff and pupils at the school for their patience, and contractors Read Construction for the role they’ve played in ensuring this build was as efficient as it was.”

Catrin Pritchard, headteacher at Morgan Llwyd, said: “We are very pleased with the new sixth form block, particularly with the technology which has been installed in all classrooms, along with the study room and social room.

“This technology will help us to expand on the provision currently on offer to our students, and to work collaboratively with other schools in North East Wales.

“We would like to thank Read Construction and all Wrexham Council personnel involved in this project – diolch i bawb.”
