THE next mayor of Flint has been selected.

At a meeting of Flint Town Council on Friday May 17, members were asked to elect the town mayor for upcoming year as well as position of deputy mayor.

The retiring mayor, Cllr David Cox made proposals that Cllr Norma Davies be chosen for the position.

Councillors voted for Cllr Norma Davies, who has served as deputy mayor for the last year alongside the 2018/19 mayor.

The town's next deputy mayor was also selected at the annual general meeting – namely Cllr Melanie Buckley.

Upon transferring into the mayoral robes, Cllr Davies said: “I thank everyone for their kind words and look forward to serving the town of Flint as your mayor for the year ahead.”

The meeting was followed by a civic dinner at the Mountain Park Hotel in Flint.

The Town Hall, off Market Square, was packed with members of the community coming to welcome the incoming mayor and her deputy – including David Hanson MP, Hannah Blythyn AM and members of the Flint Coastguard Rescue team.

A spokesman for the Flint Coastguard Rescue team said: “We would like to wish Councillor Mrs Norma Davies and Councillor Ms Melanie Buckley (Deputy Town Mayor) the best of luck for the ensuing community year, and also take this opportunity to thank the retiring Mayor David Cox for his work over the last 12 months.”

Flint Town Council will hold their monthly meetings on the fourth Monday of each month, excluding August, which are open for the public to attend.
