They say your taste buds change as you get older and I certainly think there may be some truth in that as I seem to be getting more and more tolerant of spicy food.

After years of eating bland kormas, I am now keen to try as much spice as possible.

I also have to admit that in my youth I spent quite a bit of time in curry houses but usually after a long night of drinking and dancing - mostly dancing - on the town.

But thankfully my habits have changed, and so on a recent visit to IJazz in Wrexham I braved the lime pickle and lived to tell the tale.

We have now been to IJazz on a number of occasions. It is certainly our Indian of choice, and we are not alone, it is always busy and on this spur of the moment chance visit we managed to get a table without booking, but only just.

The service is always excellent, with the staff attentive but not too in your face and the decor bright and inviting.

The atmosphere is welcoming, with lots of chatty diners all enjoying a night out and the excellent cuisine.

We always start with poppadoms and this night was no exception.

My partner then chose the chicken passanda, which is a rich creamy dish cooked in a spiced yoghurt that's flavoured with toasted almonds to give a gorgeously thick delicious sauce. He chose mushroom pilau rice which complimented it well.

I opted for chicken sagwala. I love this dish. It is succulent chicken cooked with spinach, tomato, and spices that include cinnamon, ginger, garlic, coriander and turmeric.

I too choose the light and fluffy pilau rice to go with my curry.

We really could not fault IJazz, the food and the service - and you get a complimentary shot of sambuka to finish the night.
