A SCHOOL is to send its first pupil to compete in the National Urdd Eisteddfod in 20 years.
Year Six pupil Deian Patterson-Jones, 11, will be the first from Ysgol Plas Coch to make it through to the National Urdd Eisteddfod, one of Europe’s largest youth touring festivals, which will take place in Cardiff Bay at the end of May.
Rebecca Scott, class teacher at Ysgol Plas Coch, told the Leader: “We are all very proud of what Deian has worked towards and it’s great that he will also be the first pupil from our school to go to the competition since we opened 20 years ago.
“He has put in so much work and it really shows, he’s an awesome drummer!”

Deian's favourite drummer is Dani Washington from Wrexham Band Neck Deep.
Aaron Richards, who has been Deian’s drumming tutor for the past five years has said he is very proud of what his student has achieved.
He said: “Deian has worked very hard on his technical ability to achieve getting to the final of the Urdd.
“We approached the competition in a fun and professional way. I wish Deian all the best and I will be there supporting him in Cardiff.”
The competition is due to take place in Cardiff and run from May 27 to June 1.
