A CLUB from a Wrexham village has been hit with charges by the Football Association of Wales following claims of racist abuse during a cup match.

The Football Association of Wales has issued several charges in accordance with FAW Rules following an investigation to reported incidents at the FAW Trophy Semi-Final between Cefn Albion and STM Sports on 16 March 2019 at Latham Park, Newtown.

Cefn Albion Football Club has been charged with the alleged failure of its spectator(s) to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion or failure to refrain from violence, threatening, abusive, obscene or provocative behaviour, conduct or language whilst attending the FAW Trophy Semi-Final match.

The Leader:

The alleged incident happened Latham Park, home of Newtown AFC

The club has also been charged for their spectator(s) alleged encroachment on the pitch area during the FAW Trophy Semi-Final.

Cefn Albion went on to win the FAW Trophy in April against Pontardawe Town last month.

STM Sports Football Club has been charged with the alleged failure if its spectator(s) to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion or failure to refrain from violence, threatening, abusive, obscene or provocative behaviour, conduct or language whilst attending the FAW Trophy Semi-Final match

Both clubs have seven business days as and from the date of receipt of their correspondence from the FAW, to respond to the charges. A disciplinary panel will be appointed to consider the charges.

Shortly after the alleged incidents, Cefn Albion released the following statement: "These allegations have only come to light in the last few days and, prior to their broadcast this week, the club had not been made aware of any issues of this nature surrounding the game.

"Officers from Dyfed-Powys police were on duty at the match and, at this stage Cefn Albion Football club can confirm that we have not received any direct contact from them, STM Sports, or the FAW regarding the matter.

"We at Cefn Albion Football Club pride ourselves on being ambassadors for our community and on providing a welcoming and friendly environment for players and supporters from all backgrounds.

"As a football club we will not tolerate any behaviour which brings our good name into disrepute and should we receive any evidence that verifies racial abuse took place then we will work with the FAW and the police to act accordingly."
