A SCHOOL is to send its first pupil to compete in the National Urdd Eisteddfod.
Several pupils from Ysgol Bro Alun in Gwersyllt took part in the area Eisteddfod in Flint at the beginning of April.
Year two pupil Steffan Jorgensen went through to the National Urdd Eisteddfod, which will take place in Cardiff Bay at the end of May.
He will be reciting for years two and under.
Osian Jones, Ysgol Bro Alun head teacher, told the Leader: "Steffan will be competing with 15 other children from around Wales.
"He is the first pupil ever to go through to the national from Bro Alun.
We're all very proud of him and it is something he will remember experiencing.
"He is very excited and his family is too."
The school's singing party also took part in the area Eisteddfod - coming third place - and the school's reciting party came second place.
Mr Jones added: "We're very proud of them as well - this was the first time we have had parties go from the regional Eisteddfod to the area.
"A big well done to all those who took part and we would like to thank all the staff and parents for their support.
"The Urdd gives a lot of opportunities for children and we're always very supportive of it."
