FRUSTRATED users of a Wrexham park have voiced their concerns over the increase in litter being left there.

The St Anne's Meadow park in Caia Park is a popular location amongst young children and dog walkers.

A frequent user of the park has expressed his annoyance over this ongoing issue and has taken it upon himself to help maintain its tidiness.

Wrexham resident, Michèal Scott, 55, said: “I have been using that part of the park for 18 years now, either to play with my children or to walk my dogs.

"I thought it was a fantastic move when Wrexham County Borough Council set aside an area for dog walkers.

The Leader:

"Three years ago, I was so fed up with seeing the growth of rubbish that myself and my little daughter took black refuse bags over there to collect what we could.

"We filled three bags and two cardboard boxes and everything was recycled."

More recently, Mr Scott took to social media to express his annoyance towards those who just drop and leave their litter there, despite there being a number of bins available.

He posted two pictures on April 30 with the added caption: "This disgusting mess has grown over the last week.

"A tied up kitchen rubbish bag, bottles, cans and other rubbish just thrown into the little meadow.

"The icing on the cake is the used nappy."

The Leader:

Comments left on Michèal's social media post also highlighted that other users of the park have experienced similar incidents whilst there, with one person even implying that their child once found a box of needles.

A spokesman for Wrexham Council urged users of the park to report any incidents to them, which will enable them to ensure that it is dealt with correctly.

Gill Stevens, press and publicity officer at Wrexham Council, said: “Anyone with concerns about litter should contact 01978 298989 or report it online at www.wrexham.gov.uk.”

Mr Scott, also expressed his thoughts on the potential dangers users of the park may face if action is not taken.

He said: "The pictures I took are just the tip of the iceberg.

"The day before I posted the picture, I picked up two smashed bottles, tiny bits of glass that could have wrecked the paws of my and other people's dogs, never mind if a child had fallen onto the glass.

"I think what really upset me was the used nappy that was just thrown amongst everything else.

"I was raging. I just wish everyone would take responsibility for their own rubbish and are not determined to vandalise."
