A TALACRE children’s charity is calling for public support to win vital funds to refurbish its premises.

DangerPoint is the only charity in Flintshire that is competing to win funds from the Calor Gas Community Fund this year.

The charity is asking for the community to get behind it and vote for its project to win vital funds.

The Calor Rural Community Fund is offering grants of up to £5,000 for projects that will provide an on-going service for local communities.

It is aimed at groups based in rural areas, that aren’t connected to the mains gas grid and offers charities and voluntary community groups the chance to gain funding towards projects that will improve local life.

Lorna Langton, funding and partnerships officer said: “DangerPoint are seeking £5,000 from the Calor Rural Community Fund to help us create a more accessible and welcoming entrance to the centre.

"The centre is based in a unique old building that houses our interactive educational zones, meeting rooms and other multipurpose areas including a craft room that can all be booked by local groups and individuals.

“We have welcomed over 90,000 visitors to the centre since opening in 2005 but the main entrance to the building has not been updated in that time due to lack of funds.

"As a charity we re-invest all income back into our educational scenarios. The doors have been in place long before DangerPoint took on the stewardship of this old agricultural building and they are no longer fit for purpose.”

DangerPoint welcomes more than 7,000 members of the community per annum ranging from Schools and Uniformed groups to Over 50’s groups who all come to learn about safety and life skills in a fun interactive way.

The centre also acts as a Tourist Information point for the local area and rural coastline attractions, as well as being open to the public for a fantastic and affordable family day out during school holidays (except Bank Holidays and Weekends).

The Calor Rural Community Fund is now open for public voting until June 17. Once a person has registered to vote, they are given 10 votes which they can use on one project or spread them across multiple projects.

Voting closes on the June 17.
