A LEADING car manufacturer has unveiled a new advertisement that was filmed on Flintshire Bridge last month.

Ford’s new advert – named ‘Backbone of Britain’ – premiered during the half time break of the Manchester United vs Chelsea match this Sunday, April 28.

Flintshire Bridge was used as a backdrop for the closing sequence of the advert which features the new Transit Van and Ranger pick-up trucks being driven across the bridge and crossing the Dee Estuary.

Filming took place on the bridge on March 9, when the location was closed from 10.30am until 7pm as film crews placed cameras on the bridge to shoot the scenes.

They also used a helicopter to shoot aerial footage that was featured in the final advert.

Shots in the one-minute video show the new vehicle range heading along the A548 towards Connah’s Quay, heading in the opposite direction towards Deeside Industrial Estate as well as some wide shots of the bridge itself.

According to Flintshire County Council, the bridge also underwent “essential planned maintenance” while filming took place.

In a statement at the time, a spokesperson the council said: “Following a request for the Flintshire Bridge to be used as a backdrop for a national publicity event, the council has granted access during a closure, and has aligned essential planned maintenance to the bridge joints which will be done at the same time.”
