A BUSINESS in Wrexham has spoken of it’s disgust following multiple instances of urination on its property.

Abode Above, based in Central Arcade, took to Facebook to rant about discovering urine around the outside of its premises on Monday, as well as discarded drug taking paraphernalia.

“It’s hard enough running a small business in Wrexham town centre as it is, but add in the results of urination trailing for many yards and discarded drug taking paraphernalia it becomes an even more difficult task.

“Think about how disheartening it must be when you’re not able to open your business until the bodily fluids have been mopped up and rubbish has been cleared.

“In Central Arcade there’s the case of how to open and pull up the shutters without getting it on yourself … and then there’s the stench, even worse in this warmer weather.”

"Today, at 1.19pm, a camera – as well as passers-by – picked up a male and a female both using the shutter area as a loo.

“Quite frankly, enough is enough.”

Speaking to the Leader yesterday, Daphne Roberts, owner of Abode Above, said: “We’ve asked the council and police if we could have the shutters for Central Arcade moved to the very top so there can be no access whatsoever, but unfortunately because this is a Grade II listed building, there’s nothing that can really be done.

“That’s really the only way that we can stop this from happening though.

“We’ve handed over so many pictures and videos from our CCTV to police, but nothing ever gets done about it, there’s already enough for police to be dealing with, so of course they’re not going to chase up every claim we make.

“It isn’t just homeless people who are doing this though, every single weekend drunk men and women stumble down here and use the outside of my business as a toilet. Why can’t they just go in the pubs and clubs before they leave?

“It really is awful, the stench is so horrible, I try and mop up the urine with disinfectant cleaner but the smell will stay.

“It’s foul, it’s disgusting and quite frankly I’m sick of it.”

Offa Community Councillor Stephen Vale, owner of Caroline's Viennese Patisserie says it’s a plague that affects the entire arcade.

“People urinate and defecate down here, they fornicate, and they’re doing drugs on almost a daily basis.

“It’s hard enough to trade down here as it is without the outside of your business smelling of wee, which is something that a lot of these traders have to deal with.

“I understand that Daphne has submitted several pictures to the police but they haven’t done anything to stop it. That doesn’t exactly surprise me though, nothing gets enforced in Wrexham apart from parking.

“Go the toilet wherever you want but if you park on a double yellow line you’ve committed the biggest sin.

“I know a lot of people down here are sick of coming in every morning to find puddles of urine and other disgusting objects outside their businesses, and we are the ones that have to clean it up.

“At the end of the day, something has to be done about it, because if they don’t, these markets are going to shut up shop altogether and move somewhere else.”
