A WOMAN who attacked her disabled husband has been handed a six-month community sentence by magistrates.

Lynn Kelly, 55, assaulted Phillip Kelly outside their home at Bryn Y Ffynnon in Brymbo just days after being sentenced for an earlier assault upon him.

Mr Kelly suffers from mobility issues because of a heart condition and was recovering from a stroke, but he did not support the prosecution against his wife.

Police received 51 calls of concern over the safety of each of the couple since January last year.

Kelly was placed on a community order on April 11 after admitting a previous assault on Mr Kelly.

But a week later police were again called by neighbours because of a domestic incident.

When officers attended she said he had been going on at her again.

Mr Kelly told the police he had not been assaulted and his wife said they had argued about money and she had thumped a cup on the kitchen work surface and walked out to get away.

But the court was told when he followed outside she pushed him to the chest causing him to fall back against some railings and then grabbed his throat.

Mr Kelly was also slapped to the face by his wife using the open palm of her hand on a couple of occasions.

Kelly, 55, pleaded guilty to assault on April 18 and appeared for sentencing at North East Wales Magistrates Court.

The Mold court was told that husband Mr Kelly did not suffer any injury.

Magistrates described the couple’s relationship as “dysfunctional” but chose not to order compensation.

Kelly was told to complete 10 rehabilitation activity days and pay court costs of £85 as well as a victim surcharge of £55.
