CRIME figures in a Wrexham village are now back to more "normal" levels after the opening of new Police HQ.

For the first few months of 2019, crime figures presented to Llay Community Council included incidents that had happened in and around North Wales' Police new regional headquarters on Davy Way, which opened towards the end of last year.

In December, January and February there had been a sudden spike in figures, including for violent crimes, such as assaulting Police Officers, however those figures are now no longer included with the figures for March/April showing a vast improvement according to PCSO Dean Sawyer.

He said: "As requested by you, the figures for Llay Police station are no longer included and there were just six crimes reported between March 11 and April 11. In addition to this, there were nine incidents of anti-social behaviour, which included several unrelated neighbourly disputes and one noise complaint.

"The figures are a lot better than they have been in recent months."

At previous meetings of the community council, concerns had been raised by councillors about the negative implications the increased crime figures could have on the village and its residents, so the new figures provide them with some re-assurance.

At the last meeting in March, councillors were told by Inspector Steve Owens that an increased number of Police cars travelling to and from the new station should also have a positive effect on crime and provide further re-assurance to residents.
