A NINE-year-old girl is embarking on a journey to the top of Mount Snowdon in order to raise money for a cancer charity.

Maisie Davies, 9, from Wrexham, is aiming to raise £200 by climbing to the summit of Wales’ highest peak on June 1, and has set up of a Just Giving page in the hopes that people will support her.

Her mother, Michelle Davies, has been speaking to The Leader about how proud of her daughter she is at taking on this arduous task.

“I couldn’t be prouder of her for raising money for such a great cause.

“Myself, her nanna and a family friend will be accompanying her up to the top and it’s going to be hard enough for us, so I’m so very proud that she’s taking on this challenge and raising money for charity while doing so.”

The Borras Park Community Primary School student has selected Clic Sargent as her chosen charity, which aims to help young people battling cancer, from getting benefits to treatment closer to home.

Her mother explained just why Maisie chose the charity she did: “She looked around at a few charities and she decided that Clic Sargent was the one she wanted to raise money for.

“She couldn’t believe just how much work they do to help young people battling cancer, as well as their families, and I think as soon as she read about them, that was a cause she wanted to help.

“I’m looking forward to it as well, as long as the weather stays okay and it doesn’t rain then it should be a fun day and hopefully we can raise as much money as possible.

“Maisie is a determined, energetic, young girl, I’ve no doubt she’s going to get all the way to the top and do us all proud.”
