A"WONDERFUL mother" from Wrexham came died as a result of a fall, an inquest heard.

Brenda Northall, of Clarke Street in Ponciau, died at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on December 4. She was 81.

Resuming the inquest into her death Joanne Lees, assistant coroner for North Wales (East and Central), said Mrs Northall had suffered an unwitnessed fall at her home on November 21 shortly after 8pm.

She had fallen on previous occasions and had injured her hip and head.

Reading a statement from her husband Howard, the assistant coroner said Mrs Northall had fallen off a chair and had been unable to get herself up.

Once her husband had helped her to her feet she did not complain of any pain and came downstairs for a time, before going to bed at 9pm.

About an hour-and-a-half later, she told her husband her head hurt and she became unsteady on her feet.

An ambulance was called and she was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Doctors carried out scans and discovered Mrs Northall had a bleed on the brain and she was given medication to counteract the effects of warfarin, which she had been taking following an earlier deep vein thrombosis.

However doctors decided she was not fit to undergo surgery, the hearing at Wrexham Guildhall was told.

Mrs Northall's condition continued to deteriorate and she died on December 4.

He added: "We had been together since she was 17 – I knew she was the one for me.

"She was a wonderful mother, a great wife and she will be missed."

Mrs Lees concluded an accidental death.

She told the inquest the cause of Mrs Northall's death had been confirmed by Wrexham Maelor consultant Dr Walee Sayed to be subdural haematoma (a collection of blood outside the brain) caused by a head injury following a fall.

"Ultimately the cause of death was a sequence of events arising from the fall," said Mrs Lees.

In his statement Mr Northall said his wife, a fan of game shows, had been a keen and successful bingo player who enjoyed holidays.
