STEP-FREE access at Delyn's only railway station will make it easier for disabled people to access vital transport services.
Politicians from all levels of government have been working together for improved access to Flint Railway Station as it is currently only possible to the ticket office via two steep foot bridges.
The new leader of Flintshire County Council, Cllr Ian Roberts, describes the situation as ‘completely unacceptable’ and says he hopes, now that Welsh Government funding has been approved, the work can be carried out as quickly as possible.
He said: “It is completely unacceptable that a wheelchair user has to take a very lengthy detour to be able to reach the ticket office.”
“It is vital that the station is improved so people with disabilities or mobility issues can access fundamental services.”
The cabinet member for education said he has been working with Delyn’s Assembly Member Hannah Blythyn, local MP David Hanson and Cllr Carolyn Thomas, the cabinet member for Streetscene and Countryside, to secure funding to resolve this issue.
Mrs Blythyn added: “It is really good news that Flint station is to receive the much-needed funding to improve step-free access after being nominated by the Welsh Government.
“As the only train station in Delyn, Flint is a busy and well used station and having step-free access will make the location much more accessible to passengers and support many more people to access vital transport links for work, education and commuting.”
