A WREXHAM juice bar owner caught up in a row with council officials has moved on and started up her own business.

Leanne Roberts, 31, ran the Raw Juice bar on Rhosddu Road with former partner Gareth Roberts, before the pair came under the scrutiny of Wrexham council's Trading Standards, who had several issues with the health benefit claims of the drinks and juices on offer.

With the threat of a formal charge and a heavy fine hanging over them, the owners made the heartbreaking decision to close the business at the end of January, but Leanne, a single parent of three children, says she has now moved on from the legal wrangle and is determined to make a success of her latest venture, Bodyworx HQ, which is based out of Simply Gym in the town centre.

Leanne said: "Since Raw Juice closed in January I started back up my massage business and was just doing it mobile to rebuild my client base.

"I soon became really busy so in March I decided to be salon based again and was told a room had come up in Simply Gym, so I took it on straight away as I mainly do sports massage so being based in a gym would be ideal for me."

Since qualifying as a massage therapist more than five years ago, Leanne also offers Reflexology, Indian Head massage and pregnancy massage, but is also going to incorporate healthy juices as part of her service.

She added: "I’ve always loved to learn how the body works, I think we underestimate our bodies.

"I always said I wanted to carry the juice business on in some way as there was a huge market for it and we had so much support from the public."

Although the row with Wrexham council became intense at times, with Leanne and Gareth feeling like they were being unfairly targeted for offering the people of Wrexham with a healthy choice, she says the time has come to finally move on.

Leanne said: "I have put all the issues we had with Trading Standards behind me and we have been working together and they have even approved my menu, which is awesome news! It will be a pre-order and delivery service for now as I’m busy massaging."

As well as being a full time mum, business owner and juice maker, Leanne has also just been appointed as the sports therapist and nutritional partner at Brymbo Football Club, a role she is really looking forward to. And as if all that wasn't already a heavy enough workload, Leanne is also training to be a radio presenter and has made several appearances on Calon FM, but she says she wouldn't have it any other way.

She said: "I have always lived in Wrexham and being self employed is great for me as a single parent as I still get to do all the school runs, never miss a sports day or a concert and run my business around my kids."
