A SCHOOL pupil has been left inspired after a trip to the Senedd in Cardiff.

Emily Blore, a pupil at Wat’s Dyke CP School in Garden Village met with the Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths during her visit to the National Assembly for Wales, which resulted in the cabinet member for environment and rural affairs taking time out to visit the school.

Ms Griffiths said: “It was lovely to meet Emily and her parents at the Senedd and to be invited to Wat’s Dyke school to see her excellent report about her visit.

“Emily clearly enjoyed herself down in Cardiff Bay and it was pleasing to see her fellow students learning more about the National Assembly and the issues that matter to them, such as improving recycling rates and tackling climate change.”

“Thank you once again to Emily and everyone at Wat’s Dyke for their warm welcome.”

Heulwen Burke, headteacher of Wat’s Dyke School, said: “The visit to our school gave the children a taste of politics and democracy at work.

"The children were given the opportunity to hear about Mrs Griffiths’ role in Government and the relevance of the new Welsh curriculum for 2020, in particular the ‘four purposes’ within her job.

"It was a really valuable experience for the children.”

James Jones, deputy headteacher, added: “It was lovely to show Mrs Griffiths the work we have been doing at school with particular reference to being ethically informed.

"The children shared poignant examples of environment awareness and action using poetry and digital media to show the need to reduce the use of plastic.”
