CADETS have brought some cheer to children who will be spending Easter at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

As part of its Community Week activities, eight cadets and adults from Brynteg and Bradley Detachment have made a visit to the children’s ward at the hospital.

The cadets met nurses, staff and young children in the hospital and donated some 60 Easter Eggs. The cadets and parents had collected Easter Egg Donations over the past few weeks, which included donating their pocket money, to purchase the eggs. The eggs will be used during the Easter period for children in A&E and on the children’s ward.

Sergeant Instructor Kyle Williams, who has worked in the hospital for three years currently in the critical care unit at the hospital and helped with the egg collection said: “I said to all the cadets present that they can walk away today knowing that they will have made 60 children smile.

"To be able to see a poorly child smile for a brief second fills me with pride and I am sure the cadets to.”

Detachment Commander Mervyn Jones reported that the cadets in the community week is just for this type of activity as we teach the cadets that there are many out in their own community that need the help and support the Army Cadet Force can offer, and as we teach them I hope they will learn and pass it on.

"The cadets spoke to the families with children on the ward and the staff were great as they chatted to the cadets about all the things they have to do looking after the ward and the children's needs.

"There were two cadets from Brynteg and Bradley who had spent time on this ward in the past so it was great during this Helping Week to give a little back to the community in which we live."

He also thanked all the cadets and parents who supported this worthwhile event.

The Army Cadets is about fun, friendship, action and adventure. They inspire young people to challenge their limits and go further in life, no matter what they aim to do.
