A PENSIONER from Wrexham with “distorted views on children” has been imprisoned for two years for child abuse images offences.

Michael Gate, 70, was still on licence after being handed a seven-year sentence for indecent assaults committed on children when he was caught with indecent images on his phone.

Prosecuting barrister James Coutts told Mold Crown Court that Gate was still subject to the notification requirements of his 2010 conviction and police became concerned about his sexual behaviour when they visited his home on September 20 last year.

He admitted he had been masturbating and had positioned his furniture so he had a view of the street.

“It caused police significant levels of concern and he did admit he’d been using porn on a Playstation and mobile phone,” said the prosecutor.

Police seized his devices and found various indecent images on them. In total there were 15 and six at category A, the most serious, with the children depicted aged between five and nine years of age.

Gate admitted to police possessing the images and that he knew the details of each image.

The pensioner from Western View, Pandy, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images.

Defence barrister Henry Hills said: “His best mitigation is his guilty plea. There are a limited number of images.”

Gate was also placed under the restrictions of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and Judge Parry told him: “Once again you have demonstrated that you have entrenched distorted views of children.”
