AN ACCLAIMED international pianist will perform a special concert in Mold in aid of a refugee support initiative.

Margaret Fingerhut will perform at Theatr Clwyd on Thursday (April 18) in support of Synergy-Mold, the town’s City of Sanctuary group.

For the concert, which is titled ‘Far From the Home’, Margaret has compiled a unique programme which uses words and music to tell the story of some of the many composers who were refugees because of war or persecution, or who migrated for their work.

She will perform works by Chopin, Greig, Handel, Haydn, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov and has specially commissioned a new piece by Arian, the Kurdish Syrian composer who wrote the Refugee National Anthem for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Mold is one of 30 venues across the UK where Margaret is performing this year to raise awareness of refugee needs and to collect funds for City of Sanctuary refugee groups.

Synergy-Mold, Flintshire’s first City of Sanctuary group, aims to make Mold a town of sanctuary, welcoming those fleeing violence and persecution in their own countries and taking practical steps to welcome refugees and help them integrate into our community.

All funds raised by the concert will go towards community sponsorship by Synergy-Mold of a Syrian refugee family to come to the town.

Margaret Fingerhut is Professor of piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London and a visiting tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Her distinguished career has taken her all over the world and she has given masterclasses in the US, Canada, Japan and China.

As a concert soloist Margaret has appeared with all the UK’s major orchestras, and she is regularly heard on BBC Radio Three and Classic FM.

Although she has previously played in Chester, Rhyl and Bangor, this will be her first performance in Flintshire and she says that she is looking forward to playing at Theatr Clwyd.

The concert will take place in the Clwyd Room at Theatr Clwyd at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available via the Theatr Clwyd Box Office.
