A FLINTSHIRE coastguard team has warned walkers to check tide times after being called out to help colleagues in Wirral with an operation.

Flint Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked by UK Coastguard along with Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team to an incident shortly after 9.30am on Monday.

Concerns had been raised by a member of the public who had seen someone walking far out on the beach off Harrison Drive, New Brighton, with an incoming tide.

A spokesman for the team said: "As the team arrived on scene, a dog walker was sighted making his way back to the promenade and having to walk through water in order to do so.

"The person was checked to ensure no medical attention was required.

"RNLI Wirral Lifeguards also attended.

"As the team were standing down from this incident, it was brought to their attention that there was a person in the water who may have also been cut off.

"On investigation, this person was an experienced swimmer and was content continuing to swim under the observation of Lifeguards.

"Remember to always check the tide times if you are going for a walk on the beach so you don’t get caught out."

In the event of a coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
