COLD callers claiming to be council workers were spotted going door-to-door in Buckley, a crime prevention charity reports.

OWL Cymru, based in Mold Police Station, received a call about two women attending at the address of an elderly female in the Southfields Close area on Tuesday, April 2.

The incident report says that the females, claiming to be from Flintshire County Council, asked the resident to show them around the property.

The resident agreed to this request and trusted that they were from the council, despite showing no formal identification.

Enquiries have been made to several departments within Flintshire County Council, but no official visits have been recorded to the Buckley property, the service says.

The Neighbourhood Watch alert said: “Enquiries are ongoing, but we would like to advise all residents to be vigilant about who they let in to their properties.

“If you are a Flintshire County Council tenant and regeneration works need to be carried out tenants will receive a letter, and if repairs need to be carried out a telephone appointment would be made and staff would attend in a Flintshire County Council van, in uniform, with identification.”

The service urges concerned or suspicious residents to report anything to the police using 101 for non-urgent calls or 999 if your call is urgent.
