A woman says that losing four stone in nine months has ‘completely changed her life’.

At the start of her slimming journey, Kaye Robertson weighed in at nearly 17 stone and, after spending a two-week summer holiday trying to hide from the camera and cover herself up with beach towels feeling like “the fattest person there”, she decided to do something about it.

Kaye made a massive life change and joined her nearest Slimming World group at Sandycroft Community Centre in October 2017 and has not looked back since.

She said: “From the moment I walked through the door, I felt at home and welcome. Everyone was smiling and laughing, and it looked more like a group of friends meeting for a chat and a coffee than a slimming class.”

Kaye, from Buckley, recalls how great she felt after losing half a stone in two weeks, with the weight dropping off week after week whilst still being able to enjoy the things she loved like a full English breakfast, curries, barbecue food and a glass of wine at the weekend.

Her husband Allan also followed along with the plan at home and lost a brilliant ten pounds in his first week and decided to also sign up to the class. Nine months later, he had lost 3 stone.

He added: “It’s fantastic being on this journey together, we cook together, stay at group together and in 2018 were even lucky enough to be voted Couple of the Year at our group. Food optimising is now just our way of life.”

Speaking about her life prior to losing weight, 57-year-old Kaye said: “I felt like an old lady just waiting to retire and die. I was obese, so unhealthy, and had given up trying. I had been to the doctors because every joint in my body hurt and was told that it was the start of osteoarthritis.

“There is diabetes and heart disease in the family, and I was just waiting for my turn. I was a health and weight related time bomb waiting to go off.

Kaye remembers being put on her first diet at the age of 10 by her mother and spending the next 45 years yo-yoing up and down the scales. She went as far as having a gastric band fitted in 2012 which had to be removed after 18 months when it had slipped out of place.

Since losing her weight, Kaye has found a new lease of life and, at nearly 60-years-old, she has started going to a local hula hooping class and ‘putting the 20-year-old members through their paces’.

Kaye is now ready to help others achieve results like hers by taking over the group when their leader moves on to pastures new.

She said: “Becoming the Slimming World consultant for our group was the perfect way to continue on our weight loss journey, while encouraging and supporting others to do the same thing. It has completely changed my life and it is wonderful to help people change their lives. ”
