Town councillors were left fuming after their planning objections were ignored.

At their monthly meeting, Shotton town councillors expressed their concern over the proposed planning application for the former Shotton Lane social club.

Cllr Mike Evans told members that the applicant also applied for fencing and pigeon sheds, but the latter has recently been approved.

He said: "The pigeon sheds in Shotton Lane have been passed but they have been up 12 months before he put the planning in. I don't think they have looked at it properly and our objections didn't matter.

"The fencing there also should have come down last September and he put in a planning application for houses. He's ignored everything else so far, my fear is he just seems to be doing what he wants to do. Can we write to planning officers expressing our dismay and ask why railings are still up.

"Councillor Ron Davies reported at the September meeting they were told to take the fencing down but they are still up."

The Leader has previously reported the concerns raised over plans for the Shotton Lane site, with members being worried over issues with traffic and parking.

The Applicant has also submitted an outline proposal for 14 dwellings on the site, but Shotton town councillors were against this.

Cllr Gary Cooper, chair of the council, said: "There's no harm us writing. What we want to know is if they have put fencing up illegally, why haven't they taken it down.

"We will write to express our disappointment as we are acting on behalf of the public."

Cllr Elwyn Jones added: "At the end of the day they are planning officers, it's what they decide."

Councillors voted in favour of writing to Flintshire County Council planning officers.

Members also discussed whether they would be able to attend the site meetings for the field as ward members.
