A FREE event aimed at highlighting the support available for people affected by cancer is taking place in Ellesmere Port next month.

The Cancer Health and Wellbeing Event follows the success of similar events over the past couple of years for local people living with and beyond cancer.

It will take place at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall on Thursday, May 9, and has been organised by the Macmillan Information and Support Services at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Wirral University Teaching Hospital.

As well as featuring short talks from health care professionals it will include a marketplace promoting the services and support available to people ranging from fitness advice and psychological support to welfare guidance and support for carers.

Joint organiser, Koren Bailey from the Macmillan Information Centre at the Countess of Chester Hospital said: “People affected by cancer may not always realise how much help is available locally and this event enables a variety of providers to come together so that people can explore and informally browse the marketplace of stalls and have the opportunity to listen to talks that are related to their health and wellbeing. Topics to be covered include dietary advice, the benefits of activity alongside the psychological effects of cancer and ways to manage them.

“This event is for anyone affected by cancer, whether you are living with cancer, recovering from cancer or caring for someone with cancer. There will be a wealth of resources in one place and access to expert advice from cancer nurse specialists, Macmillan professionals, dietitians, with many organisations such as the Maggies Centre, The Living Well Centre present alongside community groups and local activities that can positively impact on health and wellbeing."

The free event will take place from 12.30pm until 4.30pm, with talks starting at 2.30pm. People are welcome to bring a friend, relative or carer.
