A FISHING club is appealing for new members as it enters its 40th year.

Mold Fly Fishing Club has three pools at Llanferres, near Loggerheads.

It began as a fly tying club, founding member and current chair Cllr Brian Lloyd said.

And at its peak, the club had about 120 to 130 members and a strong junior membership - but now it has about 60.

Cllr Lloyd said: "We used to enter competitions all over the country and we had lads who were in the Welsh Fly Fishing Team.

"But now we need extra members to come in - we can survive at 60.

"But it is always good to have new people because there's the social side to it as well so we're trying to encourage people to join

"At the moment membership costs £110 for the year and you can fish as many times as you want at the three pools near Loggerheads.

"There are some fisheries which can charge from £20 to £40 a day, so our club is value for money."

The club is to hold its AGM on Tuesday (April 9) at the Ex-Servicemen's Club in Wrexham Street, Mold.

Cllr Lloyd said anyone who wishes to find out more about the club is welcome to attend.

Those interested in attending are advised to arrive at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Cllr Lloyds said the club has removed its joining on fee this year in a bid to incentivise joining.

Anyone interested in joining can contact Brian Lloyd on 07734 579898, Graham William on 07729 495 765 or Glen Evans on 01244 544124.
