A COUNCIL is to splash out £6,000 on a converted container for children to play in.

Brymbo Community Council is purchasing the shipping-style container to give children in the village somewhere to play and learn.

It is to be fully equipped with IT facilities and will be a base for Wrexham Council's youth workers to engage with children.

Tanyfron County Councillor Paul Rogers who represents Brymbo said he is delighted after the community council backed plans to invest in a new facility for children and young people.

Cllr Rogers has been working with community councillors and Wrexham Council Youth Service to look at options for a dedicated space for young people resulting in a specially converted bespoke container being ordered from I.T Williams of Ruthin.

The 30ft container will be fitted with UPVC patio doors, side window and door, vinyl flooring and insulated with melamine wipeable whiteboard walls.

The facility will also be fitted with a small kitchen area, heating, lighting and power sockets.

Security has also been a major consideration and the facility will be fitted with appropriate anti-vandal shutters.

Cllr Rogers said: "Wrexham Council Youth Services contacted the community council to say they had secured £6,000 towards purchasing a basic converted container to use as a dedicated space for children and young people which would also be used as a base for play and youth workers.

"Community Councillor Leighton Prince and I considered the options and our conclusion was that if we are going to do this let's go further, let's invest for the benefit of young people and their future.

"We are therefore delighted Brymbo Community Council agreed to at least match the funding secured to date to purchase an enhanced container and separate storage to develop a new hub for young people in the village."

Discussions are ongoing in relation to where the facility will be located and it is expected that the new facility will be in place later the year.
