HOUSING contractors have given a new lease of life to the kitchen facilities at a Wrexham community hub.

Contractors CLC have updated the kitchen at the Gresford and Pandy Sports and Social Club. The club’s former kitchen had been in place for about 30 years, and members thought the building was in need of a new one.

The club approached Wrexham council to see if any work could be undertaken through the Community Benefit scheme, which sees contractors working on council properties carry out free work or provide free supplies to community projects, such as local clubs or facilities.

Thomas Roberts, Secretary at the club, said: “I noticed in the press that some communities in Wrexham were having work done by contractors working for Wrexham Council, and we approached Chris Jones, the council’s contract manager, to see if we might have some work done.

“He said that when work was done in our village, he thought that through the Community Benefit scheme the contractor could help provide us with a new kitchen. It was about 30 years old, and we were definitely in need of a new one.

“We are always looking to upgrade the club including the bowling green site which could do with a good makeover.

Mr Roberts thanked Wrexham Council and CLC for the new kitchen and said it will benefit everyone.

Cllr David Griffiths, Lead Member for Housing, said: “I’m very pleased to see the improvements at Gresford and Pandy Sports and Social Club.

“I’m glad to hear that the improvement has been of benefit to the club, and would like to thank CLC for the work carried out – I’m sure the new facilities will be greatly appreciated by club users.”
