A MAN beat his partner after drinking a “lot of vodka”, then slashed his wrists at the couple's Wrexham home, a court heard.

Pawel Skotarek slapped Joanna Krajewsca across the face because it was said the pair had not resolved her leaving “to live with another man”.

Skotarek then dialled 999 and was found alongside a large pool of blood, having suffered “significant” injuries to his arms.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told North East Wales Magistrates Court that police were called to the couple’s home at Bury Street on March 8.

Skotarek, 33, now of Alexandra Road, Wrexham, admitted assault by beating.

Stephen Edwards, defending, said Skotarek had reconciled with Ms Krajewsca but found it “difficult to cope with what had happened” previously.

“He became quite desperate. He went to see his GP but unfortunately he overdosed on his medication,” said the solicitor.

“He ended up in hospital and he has brought his mental health assessment from his stay there to court.

“On the day he had drunk a large quantity of vodka.”

The Mold court was told Ms Krajewsca had not made a formal complaint to the police, but Skotarek wanted to receive help.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until Thursday to allow time for a probation report to be prepared.
