HOLYWELL Town Council received an update from the youngest councillors in the chamber with their latest project to get young people engaging with the town.

At their monthly meeting, youth councillors Emilia James and Seren Wynne gave an update on the development of Holywell Town Council’s Youth Forum and what the group aims to do next.

Emilia said: “Our priority at the moment is trying to establish the Youth Forum and we have created the flyer in order to help attract new members and get the word out there. Initially, we are going to target from six to eight young people to join us and build the forum from there.”

Holywell Town Council welcomed their two youth council members on board in January 2019 and they have regularly attended the full council meetings as well as balancing other commitments.

As part of the projects and development update, members of the council were presented with a draft of the recruitment flyer at the meeting which aims to encourage 14 to 25-year-olds living in the Holywell area to have their say on the future of the town and help plan events for young people in the town.

Youth councillors met on Tuesday, March 19, to discuss the establishment of the town’s youth forum and how they would go about recruiting members.

Emilia added at the meeting on March 19 that once the forum was established, and enough plans were in motion, that the group will design a new flag to represent the town and put together a what’s on guide promoting events and activities will be on during the summer holidays.

Cllr George Scragg, representing Greenfield, proposed that the youth councillors could investigate the opinions of Holywell’s young people in relation to the environment following the news that

Cllr Scragg also suggested that the girls look into the issue of young people wanting the right to vote at the age of 16

He said: “As a council, I think we should be supporting the young people if Holywell and Greenfield that do not necessarily have the voice that comes from a vote, but they do have very strong opinions about their future, their town and their friends.”

The chamber agreed with this proposal and the town mayor, Cllr Rosetta Dolphin, asked Emilia and Seren to present a report at the next meeting in April with their findings.
