AN ASSEMBLY Member is 'deeply sickened' over a fellow AM's insensitive language.

Jack Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside, has written to the Presiding Officer following language used in the chamber.

Helen Mary Jones, AM for Mid and West Wales, said during an intervention from the Conservative Member for North Wales, Mark Isherwood: "If he wants more rope to hang himself with..."

Mr Sargeant wrote to the Presiding Officer to seek advice on what further steps can be taken to deal with the issue and prevent such language being used again.

He said: "I write to you as a matter of urgency, following this evening's plenary proceedings. As you will be aware, since my election to the Assembly, I have fought tirelessly for a kinder politics, mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

"We have always prided ourselves on behaving as role models for the people of Wales.

"I was horrified and deeply sickened to hear the Member for Mid and West Wales (Helen Mary Jones) during an intervention from the Conservative Member for North Wales (Mark Isherwood) make the following remark from a sedentary position."

Mr Sargeant said over the last year, the Assembly has been scarred by the loss of two Assembly Members, one from suicide.

He added: "This is of course a personal issue for me and in the time I've been here, I have rarely felt as sick as I did following this remark.

"As elected members who are respected by the public, the language we use goes a long way in creating the Wales we all strive to see."
