Susan Elan Jones MP has given her full backing to Johnstown residents who are concerned that Arriva Buses Wales wants to change some local bus routes.

Following the meeting, the Clwyd South MP contacted Arriva and made representations to Wrexham County Borough Council about the lack of adequate bus services.

She said: "I am really concerned by this proposal - and what it will mean for people living in Nant Parc, the streets off Bangor Road and the Moreton Estate. A lot of people live in that area and it's a very long walk to the main road.

"The proposed change will make it impossible for some people to get a bus to Wrexham. That's not right and could mean elderly, sick and disabled people missing things like hospital appointments.

"I really hope Arriva Buses Wales will change their mind and I have made an urgent representation urging them to do so.

"The Welsh Government now spends more than £250 million on buses every year and the National Transport Finance Plan states that local authorities should match the funding committed by the Welsh Government. I know times are hard when it comes to funding but as Arriva Buses Wales is a commercial operator, we need some local matched funding if we want a proper bus service."

Arriva announced several weeks ago that it will be axing and changing many routes in and around Wrexham, with the changes coming into effect from March 31.
