A CHARITY in Wrexham has received a donation of nearly £4,000 from the Asda Foundation, which will go towards helping to furnish a new computer access area for their employment plus project.

Offering tailored support to all who come through its doors, the Salvation Army now offer employment advice. The employment plus project helps people become job-ready, as well as find a job and to stay in work.

The Wrexham-based charity, ran from Garden Road, aim to help people achieve qualifications, assist with job searching and benefits advice.

With an inevitable demand in online usage, the Employment Plus project includes access to computer facilities which are a vital factor in securing employment. The Asda funding will enable the charity to furnish their computer area, offering a fresh space for those who use the online facilities.

Karen Edward, community centre manager of Wrexham Salvation Army, said: “We are very grateful for the help we’ve received from Asda Wrexham. Our work is important and it’s lovely to know that such a large company realizes the importance of local charity work.

“The donation has enabled us to purchase new tables, chairs and equipment, which means that we can offer computer facilities through our employment plus project for people who need support.”

Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation is a registered charity that aims to have a positive impact on local communities, making independent grants to provide support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda’s community life colleagues throughout the UK.

It funds charitable projects and activities what have the ability and potential to achieve change for the better – with the aim of making a significant difference to local communities and the people who live there, both now and in the future.

The Asda Foundation is celebrating its 30th birthday over the next year with a number of surprise grants to previously supported projects totalling to £300,000.

The application to the Asda Foundation by the Salvation Army was supported by store colleagues at the Asda store at Holt Road in Wrexham.

Mary Williams, Asda Wrexham’s community colleague, said: “We see the Foundation as one of the many ways to give something back to the communities that support us.

“That’s why we lend a hand to the wide range of good causes with which our colleagues are involved, sharing their passion and helping to make a difference through a variety of projects locally and across the UK.

“Supporting smaller, local applications such as the Salvation Army is really important to us – and we hope it will make a real difference within the local community in Wrexham.”
