A GRANDFATHER form Caia Park who stranded in Benidorm for three months is finally back in Wrexham.

Keith Arrowsmith, of Allington Drive, Caia Park, and a grandfather of six, is now recovering at Wrexham Maelor Hospital after a 32 hour ambulance ride home.

Mr Arrowsmth fell ill with a lung infection while on holiday in January.

He had flown out on Christmas Day, and was due to return on January 8 but took ill on January 6 and at one stage when he was placed into an induced coma the family, were told to "prepare for the worst".

Mr Arrowsmith was in the coma for nearly four weeks which has led to muscle wastage and has left him move or walk.

To make matters worse, a mix-up with his insurance paperwork left him stranded in a Spanish hospital while his family back home desperately tried to raise the cash to bring him home.

A solution was found last week, and on Friday night Mr Arrowsmith began on his journey home still on a ventilator via a road ambulance, accompanied with a doctor and nurse.

They finally arrived back in the UK 32 hours later on Sunday morning.

His daughter Donna Arrowsmith, who started a Just Giving page for donations, said the family were delighted he was back in Wrexham and thanked everyone for their support.

She said: "He's happy, he's getting treated back in Wrexham and he looks much better than when we left him.

"It took 32 hours, he left on the Friday night and got here at 7.30pm on Sunday.

"We raised £10,000 as a family scraping money together and from the fundraising page after a finding out last week it was possible to do."

She added that Mr Arrowsmith still faced a long road to recovery.

"We think he will be there another few months", she said.

"He can't walk at the moment and can only use one arm.

"All the family are so grateful and thankful for all the support everyone has shown and we are just so happy to have him back in Wrexham."
