WREXHAM has been chosen as one of seven locations where budget chain Travelodge wants to open another hotel, creating 25 new jobs

The chain's expansion programme collectively represents an investment value of £45 million and will create 200 new jobs

Travelodge has confirmed it is actively looking for seven new hotels sites across Wales and Wrexham has been chosen as one of the key locations.

This will be Travelodge’s second hotel in Wrexham, the other hotel is located on the A483/A5152, Wrexham Bypass, near Rhostyllen.

The other six locations to make the Travelodge Wales expansion programme are: Aberystwyth, Penarth, Pwllheli, Swansea, Tenby and Torfaen/Blaenau.

Collectively this expansion programme represents an investment of £45 million for third party investors and will create 200 new jobs which include 25 in Wrexham.

A spokesman for Travelodge said: "Wrexham has been identified as a key target area, as it is growing from strength to strength and attracting record visitor numbers. However there remains a shortage of good quality, low cost accommodation.

"Opening a second Travelodge hotel in Wrexham would represent an investment of around £7 million for third party investors and create 25 new jobs.

"The new hotel would also help attract new visitors to the area and boost the local economy, as Travelodge research shows its customers spend, on average, double their room rate with local businesses which equates to a multimillion spend annually."

Tony O’Brien, Travelodge Development Director said: “As Wales’ first branded budget hotel chain we are delighted to celebrate 32 years of trading in Wales by opening our first hotel in Rhyl and announcing plans to open a further seven hotels including a second hotel in Wrexham.”

“During the last three decades we have become symbolic in Wales for offering great value. However, with locations such as Wrexham growing from strength to strength there is a shortage of good quality and low cost accommodation to fulfil demand. Therefore we are looking to expand our portfolio in Wales with a further seven hotels, this will boost our presence to 34.”

Tourism into Wrexham is continuing to grow thanks largely to events like FOCUS Wales, as well as increasing number of tourists visiting sites such as the Canal World Heritage Site, Erddig or Chirk Castle on the Cruise Liners from Liverpool.
