A SCHOOL in Hope has made progress in installing a new running track to promote healthy living to pupils.

Ysgol Estyn Community School, in Hawarden Road, have started work on the 300-meter track after receiving funding of £10,000 to help kick-start the project from The National Lottery Community Fund.

Headteacher Gareth Jones said: “We are a school that like to promote a healthy lifestyle in the best way we can and having the resources to ensure that our pupils can do this all year round will be a massive help.”

Seven laps of the new track equate to one mile, which the school encourages children to run to maintain an active lifestyle paired with a balanced diet.

The school are also looking at opening the track up to the community to use at weekends and ensure the whole village can benefit from the resource and keep the people of Hope feeling fit and healthy.

Mr Jones added: “We would like to that the lottery funding as, without the cash boost, we would probably not have been able to get this project off the ground as quickly as it has done.”
